Career Readiness Competencies

What is Career Readiness?

Career readiness provides a framework for addressing career-related goals and outcomes from academic and co-curricular activities. For employers, career readiness plays a vital role in hiring talent and identifying essential skills and abilities. It allows employers an effective talent development and hiring strategy that focuses on transferable skills, experience, and personal attributes.

The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) developed 8 core career readiness competencies to connect what students gain from their academic experience, co-curricular activities, and experiential learning opportunities.

Students are building career readiness during their entire journey here at William Paterson University, from class to student activities, internships, campus jobs, and civic engagement.
