On-Campus Housing Requirement for International First-Year Students

William Paterson University requires all international first-time, full-time undergraduate students to live on campus for their first two years of study.

Exceptions may be granted in limited cases, such as:

  1. When a student is living with immediate family or close family friends who are providing housing at no cost
  2. When there are documented special circumstances (e.g., medical or personal hardship)

Please note: Requests for residences out-of-state or with commute times longer than 30 minutes are unlikely to be approved. Students in such cases will still be required to live on campus.

To request a waiver, students must email their request and explanation to OISS@wpunj.edu with the subject line:
Housing Waiver Request – [Student Full Name]

Requests should be submitted at least one month prior to the start of the academic term and must be renewed each academic year. Students can expect a response within one week of submitting a complete request.
