For Teachers:

If you are a middle or high school teacher in New Jersey who’s interested in this program, submit the following via email to: anh2@wpunj.edu or mail to: Dr. Heejung An, William Paterson University, 300 Pompton Road, Office: Valley Road #4090, Wayne, New Jersey 07470.

  • A one-page statement of your teaching philosophy (Single spaced, 12 pt font).
  • A 1-2 page essay on your interests and expectations from the project (Single spaced, 12 pt font).
  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • Deadline for submission: December 15, 2013.

Note:

- Preference will be given to those participants who have not visited South Korea before and who are
actively engaged in curriculum development that includes aspects of area studies, East Asian history, and globalization, and who have an interest in teaching about Korea.


- Participants must be committed to attend all pre- and post-trip workshops and also produce curriculum materials after the trip to present and share with other students and teachers.

- Participants will be responsible for individual traveler’s health insurance and personal expenses.


For Teacher Candidates (WPU Education Students):

All WPU education students with an interest in learning about the culture and history of South Korea and the East Asian region are encouraged to apply. Participants will also gain exposure to curriculum development for their future teaching. Applicants must have completed at least 24 credits at William Paterson University by December, 2013 .   • A minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA: 3.0
  • A 1– 2 page essay on your interests and expectations from the project (Single spaced, 12 pt font).
  • Two letters of recommendation from professors.
  • Deadline for submission: December 15, 2013.

Note:

- Preference will be given to students who have not visited South Korea before and who are
interested in incorporating Korean culture, history, social studies, and/or Korean or other East Asian languages into their future instruction.

- Participants must be committed to attending all pre- and post-trip workshops and producing curriculum materials after the trip, to present and share with other students and teachers.

- Participants will be responsible for individual traveler’s health insurance and personal expenses.
