Satisfaction of Employers and Employment Milestones

Satisfaction of employers and stakeholder involvement

The COE measures the satisfaction of employers through the Persistence category of the NJ EPPPR for initial programs, a NJ DOE data request on persistence for advanced program completers and its employer survey.

Results from Persistence

The Persistence category of the NJ EPPPR are the program completers who continued with their employment at the school, district or state from one year to the next. Decisions on employment are tied to school, district, and state budgets. More often than not, employment decisions reflect fiscal budgets rather than completer performance. This is evident based on the positive results of the Teacher Evaluation results reported above for both WP and NJ program graduates.

Advanced programs

Advanced WP program completers continued with their employment from one year to the next from 2017-2020. 45% of those employed in 2017-2018 in their new endorsement area, maintained employment in 2018-2019 and 39% maintained employment in 2019-2020.

Employer Survey

The Employer Survey is intended to provide feedback to the COE on how well program completers perform in their roles as educators and whether employers would continue to hire WP graduates. It was designed to measure: 1) employers’ level of satisfaction of our graduates and 2) employers’ perceptions of our graduates’ degree of preparation in content knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge and practice, professional responsibility, and understanding learners.

Securing employer satisfaction data for William Paterson completers has always been and remains a challenge because NJ does not have a process in place for gathering such data. In response, the COE has developed a new protocol for collecting employer satisfaction data (CAEP 4.2 Measure 3 and A.4.1).
