INFORMATION FOR
Reading Clinic
In operation since 1944, and now known as The Dorothy Mae Vernon Lydecker Westdyke Reading Clinic at William Paterson University, the clinic offers comprehensive tutoring, remediation, and reading intervention services for local area students in grades K-12. Our tutors are certified teachers or reading specialists who are alumni of our MEd in Literacy or Reading Specialist programs. Tutors work with small groups (typically two students per tutor) privately in the labs in the clinic located approximately two miles away from the main WP campus at 1600 Valley Road in Wayne, NJ.

○ Aid in finding each child's educational and functional level through formal and informal testing○ Systematically select and implement specific teaching approaches suited to the child's interests and learning style○ Ascertain the best methods through which the child will learn○ Ascertain the child's learning strengths through the teacher/tutor relationship or from the child's own study habits○ Help the student understand his/her problem an devise a plan of action to help him/her○ Encourage reading as a lifetime experience
