Competency 1: Career Management

In developing competency one, you should be able to:

  • Identify and articulate your skills, strengths, knowledge and experiences
  • Navigate career options, and pursue those opportunities

Attend the following career events and workshops to develop competency one:

  • Careers and Cupcakes
Chat with employers and the (HSS) career development specialist about the importance of being career ready over cupcakes.
  • Speed Networking/Mock Interviewing Workshop
If you had one short window of opportunity to tell someone about yourself in order to land your dream job, what would you say? What is your story? Come prepared with a short 1-2 minute narrative about yourself and practice it on faculty and staff.
  • Resume Writing Workshop
Revamp your resume with tips sure to make you stand out to potential employers. Learn how to incorporate key words, and cut out those unnecessary.
  • Job Search Workshop
Confused about how to start your job search? Not finding the leads you expected? Learn the best search strategies and "connection etiquette" for websites like Linkedin and Indeed, and how to identify your strengths and interests to acquire a career that best suits you and your career objective.
  • Networking Night
Network with recruiters, alumni, and university mentors to gain industry expertise, build connections, and learn about potential full-time and internship opportunities.
