Cindy Meakam, BS, CHES Major: Health Education, Class of 2010 Position: Regional Coordinator, Tobacco Free for a Healthy New Jersey Agency: Center for Prevention and Counseling Working for a grant that comes directly from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Cindy advocates for projects, policies, and programs that reinforce the importance of living a smoke-free life. Cindy has assisted 65 communities adopt smoke-free public parks and beaches, formed community coalitions, conducted community needs assessments, worked with urban youth, and even testified in front of the New Jersey Assembly in Trenton on the importance of having smoke-free public spaces. Cindy uses her skills as a certified health education specialist (CHES) to assist communities and key stakeholders develop educational interventions that focus on addiction, cancer, asthma, and smoking-related health disparities.
