Prerequisites

The graduate program admits students with or without prior coursework in Speech-Language Pathology/Communication Disorders and Sciences.  Individuals admitted to the program who do not have the necessary prerequisites can take those courses at WPU as part of their initial graduate programming. Students without prior coursework in Speech-Language Pathology should expect up to two semesters of extra coursework compared to students who entered the program with the prerequisite background in SLP.

Prerequisite Courses (3 credits each unless otherwise noted)

  • One course in Phonetics
  • One course in Anatomy & Physiology of the Speech and Swallowing Mechanism
  • One course in Speech and Language Acquisition
  • One course in Speech and Hearing Science
  • One course in Clinical Observation and Methods
  • One course in Introduction to Audiology
  • One course in Elementary Statistics
  • One course in Biology
  • One course in Physics or Chemistry
  • One course in Social or Behavioral Sciences
