Mission and Membership

Mission: 

The mission of the William Paterson University Directors’ and Managers’ Council (DMC) is to promote and enhance effective communication and collaboration among the membership, provide guidance on programs and policies, and support the university’s mission. The Directors’ and Managers’ Council is committed to fostering an inclusive environment of continuous improvement through professional development, shared best practices, and innovative solutions, ensuring the highest standards of academic excellence and student success.

Membership:

Membership in the Directors’ and Managers’ Council has been expanded to enhance organizational leadership structures, recognizing the value of including key staff members with significant leadership and management responsibilities.  These individuals possess critical institutional knowledge and operational insights and are often directly responsible for executing strategic initiatives.  Expanding membership brings diverse perspectives, broader expertise, and increased engagement which supports professional development and employee retention.

Membership in the Council is open to directors, department and unit heads, and professional staff with functional managerial and supervisory titles and/or responsibilities (i.e. associate and assistant directors) who would benefit from the professional development opportunity.  Those seeking membership who are not directors or department heads are requested to seek endorsement from their supervisor before joining.  

Criteria for membership includes:

  • Leadership capacity, supervision and\or managerial experience
  • Oversight of major programs, departments, or cross-functional teams
  • Responsibility for strategic planning, budget management, or organizational performance.
