NJ Foster Care Scholars

Foster and Adoptive Family Services (FAFS), in partnership with the Department of Children and Families (DCF), provides educational assistance through the New Jersey Foster Care (NJFC) Scholars Program. The NJFC Scholars Program provides funding for eligible youth who have experienced CP&P out-of-home placement, CP&P independent living arrangements or transitional living program and are seeking a post-secondary degree at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or a career/technical school.

The NJFC program helps these young people with:

  • Tuition and school fees
  • Books and supplies
  • Room and Board
  • Child care costs
  • Computer or laptop equipment
  • Transportation
  • Household and hygiene items

Eligibility requirements:

  • Be between the ages of 16 and 23
  • Be in possession of a high school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency (GED/HSE)
  • Be granted admission to a degree or certificate granting post-secondary institution or program that has been accredited to receive Title IV funding
  • Have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
