Stephen Hahn, associate provost at William Paterson University in Wayne, was among the individuals honored by the Paterson Alliance at its 8th Annual Extra Mile Awards luncheon on May 19, 2016. The awards highlight the achievements and efforts of staff members and/or volunteers within the non-profit sector serving the Paterson community who have gone above and beyond the call of duty and who exude pride, commitment and passion for their work, the organization and the community.

Hahn, who serves as the University’s key liaison to Paterson, supervises the University’s School of Continuing and Professional Education and Small Business Development Center, both of which are committed to serving the needs of the Paterson community. As liaison to the Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park, Hahn participated in the development of plans for the park and is currently involved with the “Day of Innovation” grant project in collaboration with the National Park Service, the Paterson School District and the William Paterson University Small Business Development Center.

A professor of English at William Paterson since 1984, Hahn has written and published work on writers and artists associated with Paterson, including Allen Ginsberg, William Carlos Williams, and the photographer George Tice. In 2014, he participated in the making of a BBC Radio 3 North production titled A Traveler’s Guide to Paterson, which aired in 2015.  Hahn appeared in the docudrama as the “academic guide” to the William Carlos Williams poemPaterson and the city in the opening minutes and as the driver for the travelers and occasional commentator throughout.  He is a resident of Waldwick.
