Take 10 Minutes to Change in 2010

This exciting career networking event on January 26 is just one of the programs and services the Alumni Association is offering for alumni grappling with a challenging job market.

Alumni looking for a fresh start in 2010 can take advantage of a special career networking event on Tuesday, January 26. The William Paterson University Alumni Association is sponsoring “10 Minutes to Change," a unique interactive approach to career and personal development.

“We know this is a challenging time for many alumni who want to achieve career advancement despite a difficult job market,” says Janis Schwartz, William Paterson’s executive director of alumni relations. “We are here to serve our alumni community by offering programs that meet their needs, especially in the area of career services.”

The event, to be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the University Commons Ballroom C on campus, is presented by Eric Frankel, a prominent business expert in the areas of organizational performance, leadership development, and advanced job search tactics. In addition to the interactive program, the evening includes an opportunity for networking. The cost is $15. To register, visit www.wpunj.edu/alumnievents.

Career service offerings

This latest program is just one of the career services offered to alumni, says Schwartz. “Alumni can access Career Insider, a comprehensive online career library that contains downloadable career guides, employer profiles and rankings, industry blogs, and discussion and job boards,” she explains. “They may also utilize the services of William Paterson’s job search Web site, WP Job Connect.” Both services can be accessed by visiting www.wpunj.edu/alumni and clicking on the “Career Services” link, where alumni can find a complete listing of the Career Development Center’s spring workshops on resumé writing, interviewing skills, and job search strategies, to name a few.

Alumni job seekers are also invited to attend Career Development’s Opportunity Fest on Tuesday, April 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the University Commons Ballroom C. Please present your William Paterson Alumni Association membership card for entry to all in-person workshops and events.

Alumni shadowing program

In turn, Schwartz is seeking alumni who are interested in offering a real-world experience to a high-achieving William Paterson junior or senior level student enrolled in the Cotsakos College of Business. “Our students can gain so much from interacting with our successful alumni,” says Schwartz. “By sharing one day of your professional life with a student, you can make a tremendous impact on that student’s future career pursuits.” Career Shadowing Day is scheduled for Friday, April 9, 2010; for information contact Schwartz at 973.720.2175 or schwartzj3@wpunj.edu.
