Staged Readings of the Finalists of the 12th Annual New Jersey Playwrights Contest to be held on April 19

Staged readings of the three finalists of the 12th Annual New Jersey Playwrights Contest, Musical Series, will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at noon, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. at William Paterson University in Wayne. All performances are free and take place in the University’s Hunziker Black Box Theatre on campus.

“Blindsided By a Diaper,” is set for noon. Based on the book by William Squir and Dana Hilmer, this new musical comedy is about the changes that take place when first-time parents go from being a couple to being a family. The music is by Jeffrey Lodin and the lyrics are by William Squir.

 “Okay Cupid, the Musical,” by Daniel Good, with lyrics by Good and Rebecca Leshures, will begin at 3 p.m. It explores the cultural phenomenon of online dating.

 “Dickens and Nelly,” a musical based on the love story between Charles Dickens and Nelly Ternan, will begin at 6 p.m. Barbara Zinn Krieger wrote the book and Charles Greenberg composed the music.

 An open discussion with the authors, cast and directors will follow each reading.

 The winner of the competition will receive a fully staged production in April 2016.
