Amy Helm, Singer/Song Writer and the Handsome Strangers Plus Yarn to Perform on April 10

Amy Helm, daughter of famous music artist Levon Helm and singer/songwriter Libby Titus Fagen, will be performing live at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 10, 2015 at William Paterson University in Wayne. Ticketholders should arrive at 6:30 p.m. The Grammy-nominated roots band, Yarn, will open the evening. The performance will take place at the University’s Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus.

Tickets are available at the Shea Center Box Office in advance at 973.720.2371 or wp.presents.org. Tickets are $60 for onstage seating with a dinner and dessert buffet and beer-and-wine bar. It is $32 for the show only.

Helm sings, writes songs and is a musician on both the mandolin and drums.  She sings traditional gospel, blues standards and her own compositions.  She has recorded three CDs with the roots band Ollabelle, which she founded. Helm also has many years of experience performing with her father, Levon Helm.  She coproduced Levon’s 2007 album “Dirt Farmer,” which won the Grammy Awards for Best Traditional Folk Album.

Helm is featured on the Levon Helm Band’s “Electric Dirt” and “Ramble at the Ryman” Grammy-winning albums.  She currently performs with the Levon Helm and Dirt Farmer Bands, and she is planning to release her first solo album this year.

Yarn is a Grammy-nominated band that started in 2007 out of Brooklyn. Their albums were recognized at the American Music Awards and R&R radio charts, spending time in the top five at their highest point. It is lead by main songwriter Blake Christiana, and it has an Americana-tinged alternative country sound.
