The William Paterson University Bowling Team broke a collegiate national record and is headed to the Intercollegiate Team Championships in Wichita, KS from April 20 to 23, 2016. The WP team will be one of 16 teams competing for a national championship.

At the Intercollegiate Team Sectional Championships held on March 12-13, 2016, the WP Bowling Team averaged 206.4 for 64 baker games on a demanding sport compliant lane pattern. During the final 16 baker games the team bowled games of 221, 268, 243, 223, 225, 205, 254, 192, 200, 195, 223, 267, 234, 235, 210 and 245 for a 3640 total for that block (227.5 average). This broke a collegiate national record and is now the highest 16 game block score in sectional championship history since this qualifying format was adopted in 2000.

Prior to team competition, the Intercollegiate Singles Sectional Championships were held on March 11.  A total of 158 bowlers competed with just the top six finishers advancing to the national finals. Brandon Runk of WP bowled games of 178, 267, 187, 212, 209 and 233 to finish 4th place overall.  This earns Brandon a berth into the Intercollegiate Singles Championships which will be held on April 18, 2016 in Wichita, KS.  Brandon is a transfer student from Enola, PA and is among an elite group as only 24 singles athletes across the country advanced to the national championships.

Head coach Greg Hatzisavvas is a William Paterson graduate, with a BS in physical education in 2008 and a master’s degree in exercise and sport studies in 2012.

WP’s next competition is the Intercollegiate Club Championships in Indianapolis, IN on April 9 and 10, 2016 in which they will compete for the Club National Championship title.
