William Paterson University to Present “Food, The Musical” from June 12 to 29

--Show is the winner of the University’s 10th Annual Playwrights Contest-Musical Series

“Food, The Musical,” by Donna Kaz and Gerald Stockstill, the winner of the 10th Annual New Jersey Playwrights Contest—Musical Series, will be staged at William Paterson University in Wayne from June 12 through 29. 

Show times for “Food, The Musical ” are June 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28 at 7 p.m. and June 15, 22 and 29 at 3 p.m. All performances will be held in the Hunziker Black Box Theatre on campus. Tickets are $10 for the press opening on June 12. For all other shows, tickets are $25 general, $18 William Paterson faculty, staff and senior citizens and $10 students. There will be a meet-the-author session immediately after the June 29 matinee, and an opening night author reception following the June 13 performance.

“Food, The Musical,” with a book and lyrics by Donna Kaz and music by Gerald Stockstill, is a culinary feast of song and comedy featuring five short musicals all about food.  The Costco Contessa tapes her own TV show, unveiling her secrets to making delicious meals from bulk ingredients. A man convicted of aggravated assault learns how to make a soufflé as part of his anger management class.  And breakfast in the Ethel Merman home is a lot more than Ernest Borgnine bargained for during their 32-day marriage.  Songs about suppertime, soup, and celebrity chefs provide tasty morsels in between each of the short musicals.

This production of “Food, The Musical,” is directed by Edward Matthews, director and founder of the New Jersey Playwrights Competition, with arrangements by Warren Helms and musical direction by Charles Santoro and Kevin Lynch.  Samara Grossman serves as choreographer. Bill Motyka is the set designer, John Todd Erwin is the sound designer, Jeff Carr serves as lighting designer, Cheryl McCarron is the costume designer, and Christopher Ollo serves as technical director. The cast is comprised of Egbert Bernard and Mario Castro, both of New York and Lindsay Braverman and Bianca Teresi, both of Glen Rock.
