Siamack Shojai, dean of the Cotsakos College of Business at William Paterson University, will be one of five thought leaders discussing key economic issues as part of the “New Jersey Business & Economic Roundtable” held by the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants on Friday, June 12 from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Borgata in Atlantic City. The roundtable is part of the 10th annual NJCPA Convention and Expo celebration.

The panel will discuss timely topics such as the state’s pension crisis, crumbling infrastructure, eroding tax base and more.

In addition to Dean Shojai, the breakfast roundtable panelists will include:

  • Jim McQueeny, president of Winning Strategies, a NJ-based public relations firm
  • Thomas Bracken, president and CEO, New Jersey Chamber of Commerce
  • Senator Steven Oroho, New Jersey State Senate, 24th Legislative District
  • Michele Siekerka, president, NJ Business & Industry Association

Shojai, a respected economist, plans to discuss why businesses leave New Jersey and what can be done about it. New Jersey has many economic advantages compared to other states, he says, such as more college-educated adults per 1,000 and higher per capita incomes. Shojai plans to share his ideas on developing a strong partnership between the private and public sector. He believes that giving businesses a vested interest in developing and executing projects of their choice in conjunction with offering a tax credit will solve many of New Jersey’s problems.

Shojai is an economist, educator and administrator who previously served as the business school dean at Central Connecticut State University, Georgian Court University and the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. He has written several books on the field of global economics. Shojai provides regular commentary on economics and finance for the Voice of America of the United States Information Agency.
