Daryl Joseph Moore Appointed Dean of the College Of the Arts And Communication at William Paterson University

Daryl Joseph Moore, an educator, arts administrator, graphic designer with extensive experience in visual communication, and a native of Newark, has returned from California to serve as dean of the College of the Arts and Communication at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey.

“With the wide range of experiences he brings to William Paterson, Dean Moore will provide strong administrative and academic leadership to our already outstanding programs in art, communication, and music,” says Edward Weil, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at William Paterson.

Moore comes to William Paterson from California State University, Stanislaus, where he served as founding dean of the College of the Arts and professor of graphic design, and provided leadership for nationally accredited programs in visual arts, music, and theatre.  Previously, from 1994 to 2007, he was a faculty member in the Department of Art and Design at Montclair State University, where he held the position of department chair from 1999 to 2007. 

Moore also has held a number of positions in advertising, design, and illustration in corporate and graphic design environments. The founder of the Center for Design Education and Research: Simpatico Design consultancy, Moore was also a founding partner of the Visual Communications Group, Princeton, New Jersey.  

The author of the book Design and the Creative Process (Thomson Delmar Learning, 2007), Moore is also the author of several essays.  He began his professional career as a freelance children’s book illustrator, with illustrations and animations published by a wide range of clients including Macys, Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, and Houghton Mifflin. He is an elected fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures, and Commerce, London, England.

Born and raised in Newark, where he graduated from Arts High school, Moore earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in communications design from Pratt Institute and master of fine arts degree in advertising design from Syracuse University.
