William Paterson University Enactus Club Receives $4,500 in Grants to Help People in the Community

William Paterson University’s student club, Enactus, an organization that works with leaders in business and higher education to make a difference in their communities, received three grants totaling $4,500 from companies Walmart, Coca Cola and Sam’s Club to expedite their community projects.

With the help of the Walmart grant, one student team is assisting a group of homeless women and their displaced families through the Interfaith Hospitality Network in Montclair, NJ. Students Peter Avellaneda, Carolina Callegari, Michele Garcia, and Manuel Orrillo are giving the women access to job preparedness resources from the University’s Career Development Center and Small Business Development Center. The goal of the project is to empower the women and bolster their job skills.

Another Enactus team is working with a woman- and minority-owned small business in Montclair to improve its business growth. Students Hugo Galindo, Kwame Gambrah, Steven Zapata, Ariel Tolome and Ximena Sara-Lafosse are providing the business with a one- to three-year growth plan with specific benchmarks.

All of the undergraduate students are majoring in business in the University’s Cotsakos College of Business.

The Enactus club (formerly known as Students in Free Enterprise or SIFE) is an international non-profit organization that works with leaders in business and higher education to mobilize university students to make a difference in their communities while developing the skills to become socially responsible business leaders. Its mission is to bring together the top leaders of today and tomorrow to create a better, more sustainable world through the positive power of business.
