William Paterson University Presents the Academic Orchestra of Tübingen University on October 10 The Academic Orchestra of Tübingen University in Germany will perform at William Paterson University in Wayne on Thursday, October 10. The performance will take place at 12:30 p.m. in the University’s Shea Center for Performing Arts as part of its Midday Artist Series. Admission is free. The Academic Orchestra of Tübingen in Germany was founded by Friedrich Silcher in 1837. The internationally acclaimed orchestra now includes more than 90 students. They have performed worldwide, including a world premiere of a specially commissioned piece by Age Hirv. The renowned orchestra will perform Mozart’s Overture to “Don Giovanni,” Robert Schumann’s “Symphony No. 4” and will feature violinist Julia Galic in the “Concerto for Violin and Orchestra” by American composer, Randall Svane. Composer Randall Svane’s work has been performed across the United States and Europe by the New York Philharmonic, the Vratsa Philharmonic in Bulgaria, and the Borromeo String Quartet, among others. Svane has received recognition by organizations such as the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation. He serves as music director for The Montclair Kimberley Academy in Montclair, New Jersey. The Orchestra is conducted by Philipp Amelung who began his musical career as a member of the Tolzer Boychoir and went on to study singing with Peter Petrov at the Hochschule für Musik and Theater in Munich. He also studied choir conducting and orchestral conducting. In 2000, Amelung founded the Icking Concert Festival. Amelung has been the University Music Director for Tubingen since 2011.
