William Paterson University Music Department Hosts Palestinian Musician Ramzi Aburedwan and Author Sandy Tolan in Special Music And Book Reading Session on September 16

The William Paterson University Department of Music will host a concert and book reading featuring Dal’Ouna Ensemble on Friday, September 16 at 3:30 p.m. in Shea 101 on campus.

Dal Ouna

Ramzi Aburedwan, Palestinian composer, arranger, educator and performer, leads the Dal’Ouna Ensemble, which is comprised of Aburedwan, violist and player of the traditional buzuq, and three other instrumentalists and a vocalist. The concert will feature music from Egypt to Andalusia, and include music from regions of the Middle East.

Sandy Tolan, author, journalist and public radio documentary producer, will also read selections from his newest book, Children of the Stone: The Power of Music in a Hard Land. The book tells the story of Aburedwan’s life—from his childhood in a Palestinian refugee camp in Ramallah to an adult with a successful career as a musician and educator.

Basem Hishmeh, William Paterson University benefactor and founder of the Muna and Basem Hishmeh Foundation, and Carol Frierson-Campbell, William Paterson University professor of music, who had a residency at Aburedwan’s school, will host the event.

The performance is free and open to the public. For more information, please call the William Paterson University department of music at 973.720.2315 or friersoncampbellc@wpunj.edu.
