Women of Vision Award to be Presented to Five Outstanding Women at Tenth Annual Red Dress Dinner at William Paterson University in Wayne on March 25

Five outstanding women will receive the 2015 Women of Vision Award during the Tenth Annual Red Dress Dinner on March 25, 2015 at William Paterson University in Wayne. The final program in the University’s celebration of Women’s History Month, the dinner begins at 5:00 p.m. in the University Commons Ballroom on campus.

Dr. Elliott Brown, MD, FACC, associate clinical professor of medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, will give opening remarks about women and heart disease. The annual event is a benefit to support the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign, which promotes awareness of heart disease in women.

The Women of Vision Award is designed to recognize women in the University community who are outstanding citizens, positive role models, skillful leaders who inspire those around them, and exemplify commitment to service and education. This year’s honorees are Charley Flint, professor of sociology; Darlene Russell, professor of secondary and middle school education; Bernadette Tiernan, executive director of continuing and professional education; Xiana Gutierrez, student, Class of 2016; and Trishia Omana, student, Class of 2015. In addition, prizes will be presented to the winners of the Annual Student Essay Contest: Erica Park, first place; Kristina Lynn Sternesky, second place; and Valissa Hicks, third place.

Dr. Brown is a board certified cardiologist with an expertise in nuclear cardiology.  In addition to his position at Mount Sinai, he is an adjunct professor in pre-medical Studies at Western State Colorado University. Dr. Brown lectures frequently on nutrition and cardiac prevention, and he is the author of the recently released book Recipe for a Heart Attack, the body’s perfect storm, which highlights the mind–body interaction and its relationship to heart disease.

Tickets for the Red Dress Dinner are $5 for William Paterson students with ID and are available in the Office of Campus Activities and Student Leadership, Student Center 302.
