Branan Dubh and Payon Macdonald will Perform a Concert of Indian Music at William Paterson University on October 15

Branan Dubh, a Raga music vocalist, Dhrupad singer, and Western percussionist and composer, and Payton MacDonald, a percussionist, composer, and William Paterson University professor of music, will perform on Thursday, October 15, 2015, at William Paterson University in Wayne as part of the Midday Artist Series. The performance will take place in the Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus.

Admission is free. A $5 donation is suggested in support of the William Paterson Music Scholarship Fund.

Dubh was born in Australia and has followed a lifetime passion for Indian music and culture.  His primary focus is Hindustani Raga music. Dubh is a dedicated Dhrupad vocalist and disciple of the Gundecha Brothers. He also researches sacred music traditions of the Indian subcontinent and has a performed many devotional songs, including classical style Gurbani Kirtan.  He also teaches Raga music individually and in small groups and has performed in the U.S., Europe, India and Australia.

MacDonald is a composer, improviser, percussionist and singer. The recipient of a prestigious Fulbright Scholar award, he spent the 2013-14 academic year studying Dhrupad singing with the Gundecha Brothers, and continues to study with them. As a composer, he has received grants and awards from ASCAP, Meet the Composer, American Music Center, American Institute of Indian Studies, and fellowships from Yaddo and Ragdale. MacDonald teaches contemporary music, percussion, improvisation and Hindustani music.
