Ten Tips for Success

Follow these tips to do your best in an online class.

1. If you haven’t already, take the anonymous “Am I ready for an online course?” self-assessment. It’s worth a few minutes of your time.

2. Even though you can use a smartphone or tablet to access course materials, you will need a desktop or laptop computer to complete any online course. Make sure that:
    a. Your computer is running reliably
    b. Your computer has good virus protection
    c. You have ready access to wifi or a network.
    d. You are using the current version of Chrome when accessing Blackboard.

3. Familiarize yourself with Blackboard.

4. Prepare a distraction-free study space to do your homework. Remember, you’ll need to set aside at least 10 hours per week for each online course you take.

5. Create or join a Study Team. Seek out others in the class to work with and keep each other accountable.

6. Read the syllabus and the course information carefully, making note of when assignments and other course tasks are due.

7. Keep up with readings, assignments and other deadlines. Be aware of any changes or updates to the course schedule or deadlines.

8. Plan to complete assignments early in case of unforeseen technical difficulties.

9. If group work is part of the course, read Tips for Participating in Group Work and Projects Online.

10. Contact your instructor immediately if you have any questions or concerns.
