The Office for Student Diversity and Inclusion welcomes all students to explore employment and paid internship opportunities. Our student employees are assigned projects and tasks that support the mission of the Centers, support their career aspirations, and the student's passion. 

Diversity spaces for students are managed by students. Student Mentors and Ambassadors lead discussions, do student outreach, and offer support at the Black Cultural Center, the Center for Latinidad, and the Center for Diversity & Inclusion. Each center is uniquely positioned to support your academic and personal goals with direct services, programs, computer stations, lounges, and community libraries.

Student Employment Positions 

The Office of Student Diversity and Inclusion offers Federal Work-Study and NON-Federal Work-Study positions for the CDI Student Ambassadors position and the CDI Student Mentor position. Eligibility for Federal Work-Study positions is determined by the Financial Aid Office. We highly encourage all students to indicate their interest in Federal Work-Study when they submit their FASFA and when they review their Financial Aid Award packet.   NON-Federal Work-Study positions are open to all students who are not eligible for financial aid and who can obtain work authorization papers. Funding for NON-Federal Work-Study is often limited and dependent on our operating budget. 

Paid Internship Opportunities 

Paid Internships are processed through the same hiring process as the CDI Student Ambassador position. This includes submitting an application and participating in an interview. The only difference is that the student is explicitly making a commitment for one semester to complete course requirements.

Students must first email the office to explore Internship opportunities. They have to demonstrate a copy of their course syllabus and confirm faculty approval. The office has to confirm funding and eligibility for financial aid before applying. When selected as an intern, the student will be assigned projects and tasks that satisfy their course requirements and supports the mission of the Centers. They participate in all meetings and have 1-1 supervision. At the conclusion, they submit a one-page reflection of their experience. 

The hourly wage for all positions is the New Jersey State minimum wage. Federal Work-Study eligible students may work between 6 to 20 hours/week depending on their Financial aid award.   Note: Non-Federal Work-Study Federal positions are typically for 6-8 hours a week depending on funding availability and are open to all enrolled students who can obtain work authorization papers.

CDI Student Ambassadors will represent the Center for Diversity & Inclusion, the Black Cultural Center, and the Center for Latinidad throughout campus supporting campus-wide events; creating and coordinating signature programs and resources, leading discussions, and creating social media content.

Duties and Responsibilities for Student Ambassador:

Works with other student ambassadors, student club leaders, and campus partners. The Student Ambassador will demonstrate professionalism in the workspace, and manage confidential information related to data entry, research, and staff meetings. Will assist with student programs and student engagement efforts; assist with projects to include the development of strategic social media, marketing, and resource tools. Will support assessment and data collection for student events and signature programs. Students will participate in staff activities, staff training, staff meetings, and regular check-ins with a supervisor.  Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications for CDI Student Ambassador:

Enrolled full-time with the ability to multi-task, work collaboratively, and be organized in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.  Must be able to demonstrate professionalism in the workspace, student-centered customer service, and be a team player.  Undergraduate experience related to campus activities, Greek Life, Residential Life, Student government association, or leadership development is ideal but not required.

Mentors motivate peers to stay engaged, help peers set goals, and are committed to helping peers understand university resources. Mentors will meet with students for 1-1 contact; lead group discussions; coordinate programs; attend meetings and training.

Duties and Responsibilities for CDI Student Mentor:

CDI Mentors support the Adelante Pathways Peer Mentorship Program and meet with students for 1-1 contact, plan and coordinate group discussions, programs, and activities for mentees. Mentor will work with student ambassadors, student club leaders, and campus partners. Demonstrate professionalism in the workspace, and manage confidential information. Participate in mentor training, staff meetings, and regular check-ins with a supervisor.  Perform other mentoring duties as assigned. 

Qualifications for CDI Student Mentor:

Student mentors must be enrolled full-time, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and have the ability to multi-task, work collaboratively, and be organized in a fast-paced, high-impact environment. No experience is necessary. Will train and develop.
