Speaker Bios

Dr. Cyril S. Ku is a Full Professor in the Department of Computer Science at William Paterson University, Wayne, New Jersey. Before joining the faculty at WPU in 2002, he was a Member of Technical Staff at Bell Communications Research (Bellcore, now Ericsson, from 1989 to 1996), a Senior Technical Staff Member at AT&T (1996-2000), and a Senior Information Technology Specialist at IBM (2000-2002). His research interests include data science, data modeling, databases, software engineering, and automated reasoning & theorem proving. He holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from Utah State University, Logan, Utah; an M.S. degree in Computer Science and Applications from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, Virginia; and a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois.

Dr. Lata Choudhury is a senior data scientist who has recently served as Principal Data Scientist at Verizon Communications Inc. She is an accomplished statistical professional, data scientist, statistician and business consultant who consistently provides innovative analysis and results for her clients. She is known for creating and implementing highly impactful solutions from big data for complex business issues across several industries. She is an expert in data visualization, using multiple tools (TABLEAU & QLIK), Teradata, Cloud Computing,  Python & “R”, SQL Queries in SAS, SAS 9.4 (Enterprise Miner 12.1, E-Guide 7.1, and SPSS, and her work covers Machine Learning & Link Analysis, Predictive Modeling with Logistic Regression, Time-series Analysis and Forecasting, and Multivariate Analysis, among other advanced areas of expertise.

Chris Chirico is the COO of VergX. Prior to joining the company, Chirico was the COO of CentileHosted, a unique single-source provider of Hosted PBX and Cloud Services. There he was a key member of the leadership team overseeing the day-to-day operations and was directly responsible for the company’s growth, managing the sales, operations and technology departments. Chirico was also a critical team member at Alteva, formerly NYSE listed BroadSoft Service Provider specializing in Hosted PBX & UC services. There he was responsible for channel performance, direct sales, sales operations, account management and sales engineering. He increased revenue streams and efficiencies by designing processes and procedures to empower sales, increase margins and streamline operations. Now, as a key member of the leadership team, at VergX, Chirico focuses on the company’s strategic growth and development.

Christopher Kalwa is manager of data visualization at Gain Theory, a marketing analytics consultancy based in NYC, where he helps to effectively communicate and deliver data to clients across the CPG industry. He has experience working across multiple platforms including Tableau, Alteryx, and most recently Datorama. As an active member of the NY/NJ Tableau User Group community, he helps to promote data viz best practices. You can find some of his personal work on Tableau Public – experimenting with data on cycling, weather, and other topics. Chris is a graduate of WPU’s Cotsakos College of Business (2013) and holds a B.S. in Finance.


This symposium is being led by Jim Samuel, Ph.D.

Jim Samuel, Ph.D. teaches multiple Analytics (graduate and undergraduate) courses, including data mining and machine learning at the Cotsakos College of Business, WPU. He advises corporations on Analytics, Quantitative Modeling, Information Insights  and Big Data, intelligence strategies.
