What to Bring

Regional Competitions (In Person Contests Only)

Please note that expectations for what students should bring may be slightly different depending on the regional competition location.

Exhibits: All projects must be set up by students. No teachers or parents are allowed in the exhibit hall while the students are setting up–this is grounds for disqualification. Stop at the Registration Desk for location assignments. Instructions for taking down exhibits depends on regional competition location. If you have electrical needs, please remember that you are required to supply any computer cords and extension cords.

Documentaries: See your regional competition location-specific instructions for information about projectors, laptop connection, cable availability, and Wi-Fi. Please do not rely on having Wi-Fi the day of competition. If the Internet goes down, you must still be able to project your work. Judges cannot be expected to judge a documentary if they cannot view it. Find the room where you are presenting and sign-in by your name.

Performances: Please be sure you have a safe place to store your costumes and props. NJ History Day, National History Day, and Monmouth University are not responsible for any items lost during competition. Find the room where you are presenting and sign-in by your name. See your regional competition location-specific instructions for information about storing props and costumes.

Papers and Websites: Since the judges already judged your paper or website, you may only wish to be present at the awards ceremony, but you are more than welcome to sit in on documentaries and performances to support your classmates or observe. The dates on which papers and websites need to be submitted for judging will be released.

State Competition (In Person Contests Only)

Please note that expectations for what students should bring will be updated and shared closer to the state competition.

Exhibits: Parents and teachers are not admitted during set-up – doing so is grounds for disqualification. If you are using technology or other valuable items in your exhibit, you are responsible for it. We recommend you bring in technology or other items during your interview time with the judges and take them with you when you leave. NJ History Day, National History Day and William Paterson University are not responsible for any items left in the exhibit hall. While we will make every effort to have a guest wireless network set up for competition day, please do not rely exclusively on it, especially in the exhibit hall. Judges cannot be expected to judge multimedia they cannot view!

Performances: Please be sure you have a safe place to store your costumes and props. NJ History Day, National History Day and William Paterson University are not responsible for any items lost during competition.

Websites: Each room will be equipped with an LCD projector and VGA laptop connection. You will need to bring your own laptop, cables, and adaptors to pull up your site. You will need to set up and run the equipment yourself – having parent or teacher help is grounds for disqualification. While this may be helpful for your interview, it is not necessary – your judging team will have evaluated your websites in advance and should be coming with a list of questions already, so having the site up is not a requirement.

Documentaries: Each room will be equipped with a laptop LCD projector and WPU-supplied laptop with VGA connection. While you are still welcome to bring your own equipment, we will have it available for you. If you decide to do so, you must bring your own adapters if you do. Regardless of the option you choose, you will need to set up and run the equipment yourself – having parent or teacher help is grounds for disqualification. While we expect to have a guest wireless network set up for competition day, please do not rely exclusively on it! Judges cannot be expected to judge a documentary if they cannot view it! Students in the Junior Group Documentary category must also bring a hard copy of their project on a labeled flash drive in a labeled zip lock bag. This flash drive must be turned into your judging team for runoff judging later in the afternoon. NJ History Day cannot guarantee the return of this flash drive.

Papers: Since the judges already judged your paper or website, you may only wish to be present at the awards ceremony, but you are more than welcome to sit in on documentaries and performances to support your classmates or observe. The dates on which papers and websites need to be submitted for judging will be released.
